“There Will Be No One to Welcome Me Home”

Jerry & Hazel Smith

As I start on my homeward journey,
Many miles from my home, I have roamed;
But this year, things will all be so different ~
There will be no one to welcome me home!

She won’t be standing at the garden gate,
and My Dad, won’t be sating at the door;
There’ll be no fire in the fireplace,
There’ll be no one to welcome me home!

Well another year’s slipped by,
Time to travel back to the old homeplace;
The mountains and the valleys, their the same;
But, this year it will be so different ~
There will be no one to welcome me home!

I think I’ll start a fire in that old fireplace,
I’ll kneel down by Mama’s old rocking chair;
There I know that God will hear my petitions,
And grant me joy far more than my share.
